Cupping
Cupping is a form of therapeutic soft tissue mobilization where specialized cups, either glass, plastic or silicone, are applied on certain areas of the body. Fire cupping is a relaxing type of cupping where a small flame creates suction using negative pressure for a warm, relaxing effect. Plastic/Silicone cups use manual suction to create a vacuum effect on the skin. All forms are helpful in encouraging blood flow, fascial/soft tissue/scar mobility and relieving pain. Note that redness can occur at the site where the cup is applied and can last 3-14 days. (Michael Phelps put this on the map at the Olympics! It is used by a lot of professional athletes to help with musculoskeletal pain). Cups are either applied statically, or the therapist can slide them to help with myofascial mobilization.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion involves burning the herb Mugwort (Artemesia Vulgaris) at various points on the body to create therapeutic heat. Moxa encourages the movement and circulation of blood. It is used to treat a variety of conditions including fertility, women's health, post-natal, digestive, and musculoskeletal pain conditions. Moxibustion may be incorporated into your treatment session depending on your individual needs
